Bernie Sanders Campaign 2019
In December 2019, I decided to do a more lengthy post about Bernie Sanders’ trip to Canada to advocate for affordable insulin. His social media team contacted me to ask if they could share it on his facebook and instagram. I of course said YES! It was so exciting to see this comic on his social media. What I found interesting was that people were asking where the “real people” of this comic were, and why this was only illustrated. But Bernie has shown videos of the trip to Canada with this group of diabetics numerous times! It shows that a different medium such as comic illustration CAN grab people’s attention and make them take notice of important issues!

In July 2019, Quinn Nystrom and Jillian Rippolone (T1D Chick) led the Caravan to Canada, which was to bring awareness to the Insulin Affordability Crisis happening in the U.S. When I learned that Bernie Sanders was going on this trip, I was excited because I felt this would bring more awareness to such an important issue. I illustrated this post about Bernie Sanders to bring more awareness about the trip, and I had always been impressed with how much he advocates on this issue. When Quinn and Jillian asked if they could give this print to Bernie Sanders, I was stoked and honoured to be a part of this campaign for affordable insulin. Things got even more exciting when it was shared on Bernie Sanders Instagram and Facebook!
